Students have the right to…
- know what financial assistance is available, including all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs.
- know the deadlines for submitting applications for applicable financial aid programs and the process required.
- know how financial need is determined, including how cost of attendance (COA) budgets are developed.
- know what resources are considered in the calculation of financial need.
- an explanation of the types of aid contained in the financial aid offer as well as how to maintain eligibility for those funds (if applicable).
- request a review of their current financial situation if certain criteria are met based on changes since filing the current aid year FAFSA application.
- know what portion of the aid package is grant or gift aid, and what portion must be repaid. In addition, students have the right to know interest rates, total amount to be repaid, procedures for repayment, when repayment begins, and how long they have to repay any offered or accepted loan(s).
- know the criteria for continued financial aid eligibility, including guidelines for the determination of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- know the method and frequency of financial aid disbursements.
- know the refund policy when withdrawing from Texas A&M University.
Students are responsible for...
- determining their ability to pay any institutional charges based on their available financial aid and personal resources.
- reviewing, understanding, and complying with the terms and conditions of their financial aid offer.
- completing all requirements accurately, in a timely manner, and by the appropriate deadlines.
- informing us of their intent to enroll less than full time for any given term so that their aid can be properly adjusted and disbursed. We will also request enrollment be confirmed via the "Confirm Your Enrollment Questionnaire".
- informing us of any outside scholarships or additional resources that they receive.
- filling out applications (i.e. FAFSA, TASFA, ISFAA) completely and accurately. Falsification of information on application forms for financial assistance is considered a criminal offense and may be subject to penalties under the U.S. Criminal Code.
- completing the Master Promissory Note, Entrance Counseling, and Exit Counseling if receiving federal loans (i.e. Direct Subsidized Loan, Direct Unsubsidized Loan, Direct PLUS Loan).
- submitting all additional documentation, verification, corrections, and/or new information requested by either Scholarships & Financial Aid or the federal processing agency to which they submitted their application.
- reading and understanding all forms the student is asked to submit or sign.
- understanding that they are legally responsible for all agreements that they sign.
- notifying the loan servicer(s) of any educational loan(s) received when there is a change in their address, name, or school status, as well as notifying the Office of the Registrar.
- performing the work agreed upon in accepting a Federal Work-Study, Texas College Work-Study, Tutor, or Community Service Program job.
- knowing and complying with all policies and procedures of Texas A&M University.
